Irish Set Dancing Fundamentals: Sligo and Roscommon
Learn dances from Sligo and Roscommon, known for flute music and liveliness. Build skills via step-by-step instruction and called dances. Final class is a field trip to a community dance with live music. All levels welcome. No partner needed.
Irish set dancing is a lively form of social dance similar to square dancing but with a distinctly Irish flair. Dancers move through figures in groups of four couples while adding rhythmic, percussive footwork inspired by the music. You'll learn the figures, foundational steps, footwork, and regional style through clear, step-by-step instruction. Each class includes practice with traditional music, followed by called dances and social dancing. The final class at a community dance with live traditional music gives you the chance to enjoy the dances in their natural social setting.
