JOIN: Day Space Volunteer Positions for Summer

Summer Volunteer Positions at JOIN

The Day Space Volunteer聽position gives volunteers a meaningful experience and many opportunities to talk聽to folks experiencing homelessness and hear genuine stories of their experiences. 聽Volunteers typically work either a morning shift, from 10 am 鈥 12:30 pm, or afternoon聽shift, from 12:30 pm 鈥 3 pm.

Our day space, fondly known as The House, is a basic resource center where people聽previously or currently experiencing homelessness can have a cup of coffee and feel safe聽and warm. They can also receive services to help them survive outside and to help them聽get off the streets such as showers, lockers, mail, internet, laundry vouchers, and聽phones. We run on a barter system instead of a charity model in order to preserve the聽dignity of folks who access our services. This means that in exchange for services,聽people give back to the community space by doing barter work such as cleaning聽bathrooms or showers, sweeping and mopping, and more.聽Our hours are 10 am 鈥 3 pm, Monday through Friday (except every 2nd Friday of the month).

What does the Summer Volunteer Staff position entail?

  • Working as a team to meet the basic needs of people experiencing homelessness
  • Monitoring the shower list
  • Monitoring the barter list
  • Handing out hygiene products, pet food, laundry vouchers, computer codes,聽mail, etc.
